Assessment management services for residential Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) assessments
The AN-ACC is a new assessment and funding model for residential aged care. The AN-ACC model aims to strengthen funding and promote better care for senior Australians by providing independent, accurate and nationally consistent funding assessments.
AHA was initially contracted to conduct approximately 40,000 AN-ACC assessments with residents at just under 400 aged care facilities in Victoria as part of the AN-ACC trial. Based on our success in delivering these assessments, we have been contracted to conduct thousands of assessments annually at more than 500 aged care facilities in Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. This engagement showcases our ability to deliver a high volume of standardised assessments, which is grounded in our extensive project management and service delivery expertise.
Assessment quality and a focus continuous improvement drive our approach to assessment and verification service delivery. For AN-ACC, we deliver quality assessments through our:
- Approach to staff recruitment and training. Our clinically qualified assessors must have more than 5 years of experience working in aged care and be committed to working with facility residents and staff respectfully and sensitively. We deliver an extensive onboarding process and support for the assessors to complete 10 hours of online training relating to both our IT systems and broader aged care topics (including Aboriginal cultural competency training, and soft skills to sensitively engage with aged care staff and residents), which supplements 3-day face-to-face training delivered by the Department.
- Clinical support framework. AHA’s Clinical and Quality Director developed this Framework to guide our assessors’ conduct in facilities, and to ensure that the assessments are high quality and consistent across the team.
- Our management team. AHA’s Project Director, Project Manager and Clinical and Quality Director participate in fortnightly teleconferences with Department representatives to discuss progress, report on any issues, and pass on assessors’ feedback and experiences with applying the AN-ACC Interview Tool. This informs our continuous service delivery improvement protocols.
- Team of Liaison Officers. This team schedules assessments and contacts facilities pre-visit to manage expectations and answer queries, allowing us to proactively adapt to varying circumstances in facilities.
